Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — completely free. The system uses open government data from Environment Canada and runs on your municipality's existing web hosting. There are no licensing fees, subscription costs, or hidden charges. Optional third-party SMS services (like Twilio) have their own minimal per-message costs if you choose to add them.
No. The system is a Progressive Web App — it's just a few HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files that can run on any standard web hosting plan. If your municipality already has a website, you can deploy it in the same hosting account. If not, free hosting options like Netlify or GitHub Pages work perfectly.
The app polls Environment Canada's official warning feed every 5 minutes automatically. When a new warning is issued for your area — tornado, freezing rain, wind advisory, heat warning, etc. — it appears immediately in the app's Weather tab. If you've set up push notifications, registered users will also receive an alert on their phone.
Citizens visit the app on their phone and tap "Get Alerts." They enter their name, email address, and/or phone number, and select which types of alerts they want to receive. The registration takes about 30 seconds. Your admin dashboard shows all registrations and lets you export the list as a CSV at any time.
Yes. The app name, colours, icons, and text are all customizable. We can also help add your municipal crest or logo. Since you have full access to the source files, any future customization is entirely under your control.
Alert Ready (the national system) is for extreme, life-threatening emergencies and requires provincial or federal authorization to issue. EmergencyAlert complements it — your CEMC can use it to post ongoing community bulletins, updates, all-clears, and non-emergency information that doesn't meet Alert Ready's threshold, giving your community a richer, more complete information stream.
